Creative Cones for Children with Autism or Special Needs

Creative Cones can be used in many different ways to aid in the encouragement and high success ratio of any skill level child.


EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES & GAMES:

Child can Stack Cones according to color - helps hand & eye coordination, and color recognition


Stack Cones randomly and push over tower after stacking - cause & effect

 

Use Creative Cones all of one color to see which color your child responds to best.  See if child can pick this color out if put in a group of different colors.

 

Let child play alone to see what they do with the Cones such as:  stack, roll on the floor, put on side, turn upside down, put to mouth, look through, hit on floor, etc.  Pick one of the responses and try to have child repeat it and give praise.

 

Decorate outside of Cones by gluing on pictures, greeting card pictures, paper, material, felt, etc.   Use for heavy items craft glue.  Help child make a vase and put articifical flowers in top.  Glue cardboard circle on bottom of cone.

LEARN THE ALPHABET
Example put the letter "A" on a cone then glue on an apple picture.   Even if a child can't recognize the letters of the alphabet, seeing the different shapes help them to recognize repeated pictures.  For example, cut out a picture of McDonald's Arches and glue on cones.  When travelling in the car you can repeat the word McDonald's and show and child the restaurant.  Children may recognize things dealing with food with repetition.
Place three letters together example: CAT  then change first letter to "B" which form BAT; same sounds can be learned by changing the first letter.  Find a picture in a magazine or newspaper and glue on corresponding letter.
Play which one is different:  2 red + 1 yellow;  3 red + 1 blue; Child picks the odd color.  Depending on level add more cones to the game.

LEARN NUMBERS
Put large numbers on cones and show and repeat number to child.  For number "3" put 3 cones together and count them out.
Order our preprinted number or alphabet cones or use a permanent marker and number template.
